AMPATH storytellers share at IndeTale event

Last month, AMPATH was showcased in an Indianapolis-based storytelling event called IndeTale. Fourth year IU School of Medicine student, Maria Srour, co-founded IndeTale (modeling it after The Moth Radio Hour), a live show in which seven storytellers share a personal experience based on a common theme. During AMPATH’s IndeTale event, appropriately called Nyama Choma (traditional Kenyan grilled goat), seven people shared a personal Kenya-related story in front of a live audience emceed by Dr. David Crabb, chief of internal medicine at Eskenazi Health. The event wouldn’t have been complete without serving nyama choma and chapati (traditional Kenyan flat bread). Not only was the house packed and nyama choma sold out before the storytelling even began, but also more than $1,000 was rasied for the program!
